Broadwing Communications Delivers Simplicity and Sophistication with Converged Services Launch
Takes Convergence to a New Level with Concept of Plug-and-Play Telecom
Chicago, IL, SUPERCOMM 2005 Tradeshow (June 6, 2005) - Broadwing Communications, LLC, a leading provider of optical network communications services and solutions, has advanced the industry one step closer to the reality of delivering true next-generation telecom utility with the commercial launch of its Converged Network – an infrastructure purpose-built to deliver on the concept of truly converged, plug-and-play communications. The Broadwing Converged Network provides Broadwing customers with the flexibility to plug their applications into a single platform using existing last-mile technology – whether that be Ethernet, frame relay, asynchronous transfer mode (ATM), private line or digital subscriber line (DSL).
However, the simplicity and flexibility don’t stop there. Once Broadwing customers plug into the Converged Network, they can choose to support their communications services using either a Layer 2 Virtual Private LAN (VPLS) or a Layer 3 IP Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) VPN, depending on their individual privacy and security requirements.
Broadwing’s advanced Converged Network architecture delivers next-generation performance that supports a vast array of applications ranging from VoIP to Remote Data Protection that can easily be accessed by or operate across the Converged Network infrastructure independent of local access network technology. Just as electrical power ubiquitously enables utility of devices from toasters to electric cars, the concept of true telecom utility would enable you to plug any application into an outlet and enable all kinds of communications.
The flexibility delivered to customers also extends to Broadwing’s pricing plan, which does not force Broadwing customers into pre-established Quality of Service bandwidth profiles. Instead, enterprises and service providers can customize their bandwidth based on their usage and specific applications performance requirements. This means our customers will never pay for more Quality of Service bandwidth than they actually need.
“Our customers want to migrate from legacy WAN services to newer service platforms that increase performance and simplify operations, but they’re fearful of “forklift” upgrades,” said Scott Widham, president of sales and marketing for Broadwing. “Broadwing’s Converged Services ease the pain and cost of this migration by allowing customers to interwork the most cost-effective access options transparently and oftentimes reuse existing customer premise equipment. In Broadwing’s vision of the future, deploying new communications applications such as VoIP across any last-mile network is as easy as plugging in your computer.”
In the coming days and months, Broadwing will be announcing several relationships with last-mile network providers to advance this communications vision. The company will also be launching several new applications that it will deliver across its Converged Network.
